How to compare clutch prices properly
Two quotes for a clutch replacement are only comparable if they include the same things. A low price can leave out parts that a higher price includes, and a high price may include more than you need. Before you compare, ask each garage the same questions.
- What is in the kit? Pressure plate, driven plate and release bearing are the usual minimum. Ask which brand is fitted.
- Is the flywheel included? If your car has a dual-mass flywheel, find out whether it will be inspected and what happens if it needs replacing.
- Related parts. A slave cylinder, seals and fluid may be needed. Ask whether they are in the price or an extra.
- Is labour included, and is VAT? Check whether the figure is the final price you pay.
- What if something else is found? A good garage tells you before changing anything extra.
- Where is the work done? Workshop, driveway or roadside, and whether recovery is needed.
