What we need from you for a mobile clutch fit
A little preparation from you makes a mobile clutch fit smoother, quicker to quote and less likely to hit surprises on the day.
When the mechanic comes to you, the job starts well before the first tool comes out. The more accurate your information, the more accurate the advice and quote, and the less chance that the wrong part turns up or the setting turns out to be unsuitable.
Here is what We Fit Any Clutch Cornwall will ask for, and why each item matters.
What vehicle details should I send?
Start with the make, model, year and engine size, plus whether it is petrol or diesel, manual or automated manual. Clutch kits differ between versions of the same model, so the registration number is very useful for matching parts correctly.
If you know it, mention whether the gearbox has been worked on before. A photo of the vehicle documents or the engine bay plate can save a lot of back and forth.
- Registration number
- Make, model and engine
- Fuel type
- Manual or automated gearbox
How should I describe the symptoms?
Describe what you feel rather than guessing the cause. Does the engine rev but the vehicle fails to pull? Is the pedal heavy, spongy, or sticking low? Does it judder pulling away, or is there a smell of burning? Does it jump out of gear? These clues help separate a worn clutch from a hydraulic fault or a gearbox problem.
Also say when it began and whether it has changed. A clutch that slipped only when towing last month and now slips everywhere is telling a different story to one that failed suddenly.
What does the mechanic need to know about where it is parked?
Tell us the type of surface, whether it is level, and how much room there is around the vehicle. A level drive or hard standing is far easier than grass or a steep slope. Mention anything that limits access, such as a narrow lane, a shared courtyard, low overhead cover or a locked gate.
Provide a clear location, ideally a postcode or a description a stranger could follow. Cornwall has many rural lanes and holiday areas where finding the right spot is not simple.
What should I do with the vehicle beforehand?
Clear the boot and the footwells of loose items, and remove valuables. Leave the area around the vehicle free of other cars so there is room to lie underneath and lay out tools. If the vehicle is a van, take out any load you can, as extra weight does not help.
Find the locking wheel nut key if you have one, and tell the mechanic about any security devices or unusual immobilisers.
Is there anything I need to arrange myself?
Please make sure you are happy for the work to take place where the vehicle is parked, particularly if it is at a workplace, rented property or holiday let. Check you have permission from whoever manages the space.
If the vehicle cannot be reached or driven, you may need to arrange recovery separately with a recovery provider, as that is not something we offer. Tell us in advance so the job can be planned around it.
Accurate vehicle details, honest symptoms and a clear picture of the parking space are what matter most. Message We Fit Any Clutch Cornwall with them for advice or a quote.
Clutch gone while you are away?
Message us on WhatsApp with your make, model, what the clutch is doing and exactly where you are. We will tell you what can be done.
Common questions
Do I need to be present for the whole fit?
You do not have to watch, but being reachable by phone or message helps if a decision is needed. Ideally be there at the start and end.
Can I send photos?
Yes, photos of the vehicle, the parking area and any warning lights are helpful when you message. They help the mechanic judge access and plan.
What if I do not know the symptoms exactly?
That is fine. Describe what you notice in plain words and the mechanic can ask follow-up questions. A proper inspection settles the rest.
Will I get a firm quote straight away?
You will get useful advice from your message, but a firm figure depends on the vehicle and what is found. Nothing can be promised without inspection.
Can the visit take place at my workplace?
Often yes, provided the space is suitable and you have permission. Tell us the address and any access rules when you get in touch.
